I'm very confused at the moment, and I'm much too tired to sort it out :-). You see, I stumbled across a branch of my (uber extended) family that leads back to Germany. This branch is not on my direct bloodline, so it's more of a sideline for me, but hey while I'm here I might as well check it out. The most exact location is "Mittelfranken, Wurttemberg, Rupprechtstegen, Germany" in 1710 or "Mittelfranken, Wurttemberg, Germany" in 1670.
Now, as you may or may not know, Germany has been redrawn over and over and over. Wurttemberg especially. But Mittelfranken - Middle Franconia in English (named for the Francs that lived there) - is a good bit north of Wurttemberg according to the map on Wikipedia. To make things worse, Rupprechtstegen is a village in Hartenstein in the state of Bavaria, not Wurttemberg or Baden-Wurttemberg (the state that includes Wurttemberg today), and I'd say it's well in Bayern country - I'm not sure if Wurttemberg ever extended that far east. But apparently Hartenstein is in a Government District of Mittelfranken, so that might make sense for everything except the Wurttemberg part. So I will focus my sights on Rupprechtstegen..jpg)
